Following our last email, a number of you have raised some questions regarding the planning application so hopefully this will help explain what the situation is at the moment,

To view the Plans click HERE to go straight to Sainsbury's Applicaton on the Winchester City Council website.

Paper copies of application documents submitted, are available for viewing in the Planning Reception at City Offices, Colebrook Street, Winchester, SO23 9LJ Monday-Fridays 08.30-17.00 (16.30 Fridays),

and duplicate copies are also sent to the relevant parish councils.

Objections can still be submitted via email or post (see note below from -Simon Finch Head of Planning WCC)

“The Council will always consider representations received after the publicity date has expired on an application providing they reach us before a decision is made. However we encourage interested parties to send their comments to us as early in the process as possible. At this point I cannot say when we will be in a position to consider making a decision”.

What is BWAG doing?

BWAG is raising awareness of the application submission and encouraging as many people as possible to put forward their letters of objection.  This is critical in demonstrating to the planning committee how local people feel about the Sainsbury's proposal.   

You will also be pleased to know that through our fund raising efforts, we have managed to raise enough for us to engage Blake Lapthorn solicitors and their specialist planning team, who will be helping us to build a compelling case against the Sainsbury's application. We are still collecting donations to help support these activities.   

Can we win?

Absolutely. The Parish Council, Bishops Waltham Society, the Bishop’s Waltham Chamber of Trade, Amanda Holden, our new Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery along with the 4,500 people who have signed the petition, have all backed the campaign against Sainsbury's coming to Bishops Waltham.  Even Sainsbury's own consultation shows that the majority of residents are not in favour of their planned superstore.   

In 2010 alone Manningtree in Essex, Leek in Staffordshire, Milngavie in Scotland, Sheringham in Norfolk, Hornchurch in Essex, Ashtead in Surrey to name just a few towns and villages have managed to defeat planning applications from supermarkets. They can be beaten.   

When will we hear from BWAG next?

As soon as there are updates on the planning application we will update the website and send out a further email.  We don't want to clog up your mailboxes but we do anticipate a number of updates over the next few weeks.

In the meantime you can get your “SAY NO TO SAINSBURYS IN BISHOPS WALTHAM” wristband & car stickers from most of the shops in the High Street.
